TIL that there used to be a village in Austria called "Fucking".
Dead serious, not kidding. As of January 1st, 2021, they changed their name to "Fugging" due to constant thefts of their signs and the former name being the butt of jokes.
The village formerly named Fucking changed its official name to Fugging, Upper Austria on January 1, 2021. The small community had about 100 residents.
Name Change and Reason
Thefts: Visitors constantly stole the town road signs, costing a lot of money to replace.
Annoyance: People came just to make jokes and take photos with the sign, which tired out the local residents.
New Name: The town council voted to change the spelling to Fugging to stop the unwanted attention.
