my grandmother was like this. jars, butter containers and those lil cookie tins. 😂 we'd get ready to toss them out and she'd give us that look like " Gal, i know you're not fixin to throw out that good tub! Get over there in that sink and wash that out!"

Thats us over here

What? No cookie tins.? My grandmother, and several of my aunts loved those things. Especially the holiday ones
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Gibbon Oh yeah we have those, the largest ones have rice or beans in them. And a couple popcorn tins.

I hear that! Jars, boxes, unnecessary tools, etc. My junk drawer has now become a junk room! 😄

Me too.
Then I get a bug up my butt, throw them all away and then look for them a month later.

That is my world. We have boxes of canning jars, pickle jars, jelly jars, and just just jars

If it can be reused for canning - its being saved
How do you remove the label?
4meAndyou · F
@Heartlander I first soak the jar in water. Sometimes that's enough all by itself. But sometimes there are bits of the label left, stuck to the heaviest part of the glue strip, and I use Gunk remover to take that off, and a razor blade. Thankfully, soaking softens it up.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Heartlander I soak the glass jars and if they have the simple glue on it I can scrape with a razor scraper. If not I spray a little natural orange citrus air fragrance spray on the glue and it’ll soften up so I can remove it.
@cherokeepatti @4meAndyou Sounds better than my attempts. I likewise soak them in soay water for a day or two, then scrape what I can off and put them in a corner of the dishwasher. and leave them there until they either come out clean or until I just give up and start over. For some, 30 dishwasher cycle won't make even a dent.

no plastic grocery bags?😝
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Lilnonames yeah I have those too, and paper bags too. They get reused a second time.

@Lilnonames I had Thanksgiving at my neighbors home about 15 years ago. She was going to throw the turkey drippings down her sink drain. I told her it could clog the plumbing or cause a fat-berg further down the lines for the city to have to deal with. She said “What do I do with it then?” I told her I saved jars with lids for such purposes and went and got a couple of larger ones for her. Within a year I noticed she had a good-sized bag of her own jars stored in her garage. 😂 I had told her I also saved them for leftovers instead of putting the food in plastic containers or to send scraps to the dogs at the car lot, etc, and that I stored open bags of nuts, raisins etc in the larger jars too. Some of them were used to make fresh sauerkraut or pickled garlic.
