If they are a properly licensed used car dealer they should have absolutely handled the registration as well as collecting tax/fees. You can request another set of temp tags and ask they get it taken care of. Depending on where you live if enough time has gone by you could even cancel the sale and get a refund if you were that annoyed by it. In my state dealers have 30 days.

Pretty much the only instance a dealer wouldn't handle this is if you are out of state.

Whenever I leased a new car, I had to pay "tag and titie" fees to the dealer. The tag fee is the registration fee. I suspect they also tacked on their own processing fees for their time spent.

When I bought out my lease, I had to pay AAA (who handled the paperwork) fees for tag and title, too.

The seller should have done it, I presume. I hope he did not charge you. Or at least he should have cancelled his registration.

I suppose this means it was still registered under him or his company and you were just driving it "with his permission", so to speak. Buy is the title in your name. If it is still in his name I suppose that means he still owns it.

I am in Oklahoma the dealer gives you the paperwork notary stamped to take to the tag agency where you pay for taxes and fees they give you the current stickers or plate as required.

I live in Arizona and have purchased many cars in my lifetime (both new and used). They way it works here at DEALERS (on both new and used cars) is this.

YOU pay them "fees" at closing (the final paperwork). The fees cover tax, title and license. IE SALES TAX, TITLE TRANSFER FEE and the 1st year fee (12 months) for your license plates. They ALWAYS make money on this because usually they charge a flat $XXX fee for all of it.

My question to you is this: how did you get insurance on the vehicle if YOU are not the LOSS payee. IE (you are not the owner on the title).

Additionally.... if you know the previous owner's name ..... google them and ask if the car fishtailed on them and if they know why it did

idk the ripoff artist that sold us ours kept charging is extra 300+$$ to do all that stuff he even charged us a 300$ delivery fee when we were there picking up the car from the lot.. there was no delivery.. he was full of shit .. i took his dealer sticker off my car i wasn't going to advertise his shit business

That's weird how did they tag it for you to drive off with it. If you were in Maryland in your situation you would have to have it inspected just like purchasing it in a private sale
