has anyone ever been in a situation like this with someone

where you're talking to someone, trying to explain something to him or her, and they feed back their interpretation of what you told them, putting a total other spin on what you said, and they say ' this is what i think you mean? ' and they explain it back to me.......and i reply with ' err no??? that is not what i meant and not what i said at all '....so you explain it to them again, talking very slowly so they understand this time..

i really hate it when someone does that, has anyone else had this situation, if so, how did you respond?

Yes that's happened to me. I think it's good communication when someone repeats back what you said and tells you how they are understanding what was said.

It shows they are listening to you, even if their understanding of what you said wasn't correct. I handle it exactly the same as you did, try to explain again in a different way so that they understand.
