It’s the end of an era for me.
The boss has had leukemia for almost two years now and in November he was given six months to live.
While we were all making plans about what to do for work his health crashed. Now he’s on his deathbed and his wife wants to close the books and shut the doors. I don’t blame her, she’s 76 and has been wanting to retire for years. But that leaves us here today going on our last two surveys. It’s bitter sweet. I came here intending it to be a stop gap between jobs and now it’s been almost a decade and I’m actually going to miss the place and the people.
And my boss isn’t just some guy, he’s a friend of my dad who I’ve known since I was a teenager.
Some people you know you’ll probably outlive just based on age, but it’s surreal and sobering to actually see it playing out.
