I'm going to pick a different topic tomorrow

While there have been some good debates and discourse, the ones that haven't been have just been exhausting. I want to end the week on a decent note.

I think I'll pick a topic on psychology, personality and/or ideology. At least that will be fun. I'm tired of debating with people who don't want to acknowledge the rrors of history.

You are good at debating, but I know what you mean about it being exhausting.

@FreddieUK I just get tired after a while when it no longer is a debate but becomes a "How long before I wear her down so I win by default?" That sucks the fun out of having a discussion and broadening minds. Dealing with that now. I'm about to tap out because it's just become a "what about x", which wasnt the point.

I also have low tolerance when someone makes a racist remark ("I don't want to have to learn another language") or decides to claim they took the higher road ("adult thinking") These make debate and discussion unfun and tiresome. If you can't provide more than zingers and jabs when pressed, or tired old questions that have already been answered, I feel the discussion has reached its end and now it's just eye poking.

@FoxyQueen 100% with you. That's why often I'm afraid I just shrug and let them be what they are determined to be.

@FreddieUK I'm all for healthy discussion. I think we have definitely lost that art and we really need to get back to it. Much like either/or thinking. We really need to start choosing "both", not only because things and life are nuanced but either/or thinking is extremely mentally unhealthy. We are not that black and white. Ever.

But when it just comes down to name calling and insulting, well, that's bully territory and I refuse to engage. If you have to resort to that, you know you've "lost" and should just walk away saying, "Thanks for the conversation!" instead of doubling down on your horrible behavior.

Men seem worse for this than women, which is why I hate having discussions with most of them. If they can't force you to agree with them, then they trot out the insults about intelligence and such. No one needs that. And I just don't tolerate it.
Although I don't usually take part in the discussions, I must say you always have interesting topics.

@FoxyQueen You're welcome!

Its definitely wasn't a fast transition for me to grow up and see the world for what it was.

People like to hear themselves talk. A look how smart and clever I am kind of thing. Most online debates are reduced to two teams of donkeys braying.
