What are some reasons that a person would be attracted almost exclusively to losers?

People who have no aspirations in life, have trouble keeping jobs, treat their partners poorly/use them, and/or are just generally bad at meeting the obligations of adult life?

If they'd seen their parents fight with mom getting pummled and thinking "This is love"

I met 2 girls who wanted me to be the "Tough Man" in the relationship, but I couldn't act like a jerk, so they left me. Really sad as I told them "You think you don't deserve love of a gentle heart, but you do" but they still left me.
