Do you think we focus more on bad news than good news in our society?

Why is that? 🤔

I think a large part of the problem isn't whether or not the news is good or not, but whether or not the news is actually news. Most media outlets today have financial incentives to create engagement and build loyal audiences, and so often you find that things are given the credibility of journalism without any of the actual diligence and discipline that goes into it.

What we often have is content masquerading as news, news devoid of context in order to substantiate a narrative, or purely partisan attacks meant to edify the self-righteous certainty people have in their ideologies.

What often is viewed as 'bad news' today is little more than cynical punditry meant to serve specific interests. What so often is viewed as 'good news' is usually spun into propaganda or meant to serve as a fluff piece on a slow news day. The end result these companies have isn't to share information, but to sell the illusion of truth in order to retain a customer base.

I don't think news has to be either good or bad, those are merely qualities spun into the news cycle either by the presenter, the writer, or the editor looking to generate views. I think above all news should aim to be impartial by either adhering to a doctrine of fairness and presenting both the positives and the negatives. Or should at least be disciplined enough to not report information until all the facts are known. So often we're given headlines without context and people leap to conclusions based on their ingrained biases.

It doesn't have to be good or bad, infuriating or endearing, just honest. I don't see a lot of that these days
