EDIT
For those of you wondering..
I ignored my boyfriend, did the sensible thing and exited the car wearing shoes. I entered the house wearing them and I'm still wearing them while typing this update in the bathroom 馃槀

I'm currently driving with my boyfriend to his parents house to stay with his family for christmas.
While we've been in the car I've had no shoes on because I'm just more comfortable that way. I'm always more relaxed when I'm barefoot and when I'm anxious I have this need to be able to feel the floor or ground or whatever. Kind of crazy but stems from a therapist suggesting grounding exercises years ago when I was suffering from anxiety.
Anyway, I'm super nervous about meeting boyfriends family for the first time. Shoes have been off for the whole journey and I had a quick walk around outside in bare feet to ground and calm myself when we stopped at the service station.
We're getting close to his parents house now and boyfriend has said that I should just leave my shoes off when we arrive because I'll be more relaxed. We'll be parked in the driveway and I'll only be going from the car to the house. He reckons nobody will care but I don't want to make a bad impression. They're not even a shoes off at the door kind of house so me exiting the car sans shoes in December is going to be uber weird!
What should I do?

Aww honey my only advice is to do what makes you feel the most comfortable and be happy.

@SandraB I ended up wearing my shoes. And keeping them on in the house for a while. But I have been barefoot in the house most of today. Nobody cares. Boyfriends sister is also barefoot indoors and boyfriend and bro in law are in socks.

@Psychologykate That's good and would appear so much more "normal" to wake up and remain barefoot. I do tend to find a barefoot girls and socked feet boys split here too.

@SandraB strange isn't it. I wonder why that is?
