A Crazy Or Embarrassing Situation In A Store?

I had two last night!
I went grocery shopping and as I went through the aisles I seem to be trailing this older couple with their grand kid. The woman was constantly talking and complaining and as she went on and on the complaining became quite bizarre, from her claims that the vegetables were stacked oddly and why this was close to that etc. The man looked weary and silent so I imagine this is a norm for him. (Poor guy.) I end up behind them at checkout. Common practice is to put the bar between orders and put your items on the belt. I took a tiny section and had some milk and other frozen items when suddenly she whirls around on me, inches from me and snarls, we are still loading items! and proceeds with two hands to shove my stuff to the edge until they are almost falling off! The cashier gives me a WTF look that I must have had on my own face, but instead of coming back at her I kept my mouth shut and calmly waited for space to put up more items. I don't like drama and clearly the woman has mental health issues and why make it worse for her husband and grand kid? It's a good thing I had just been boxing and cleared out the negative cobwebs.

The embarrassing one. I got my coffee after and this guy smiled at me so I smiled back thinking he was flirting. Then he says you look familiar. I say you too and we find out we went to school together. Lamented a bit about how getting older is tough. He said I still looked the same. (Flatterer haha) so I walk out feeling great, get in my car and see that the wind had blown my hair 4 different directions and I must have looked crazy. Vanity never wins! 😁🤣

Most of mine involve vertigo attacks.
Once I had a sudden drop attack in a coffee shop. Luckily I'd just put my tray down. Then room flips I fall backwards scattering at least two chairs.
I can barely speak as people rush over. I mumble something about attack. One of the young servers thinks I said "heart attack"! He dashes off to get a defibrillator. I'm just able to speak better as he arrives back. Not helping my stress levels. He then phoned my daughter who was a home to come and get me.

@SW-User Yikes! I can see how that would be scary.

Not a fun shopping experience for you! Last month I was in line behind a woman getting her items rung up. She looked behind me and motioned another woman, I assumed was her grown daughter, to come up with her items. She paid the cashier then the daughter paid for her stuff separately! I was so annoyed and the cashier said that was rude and said she should have stayed at the end of the line!😠
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@SW-User That is rude, I agree. Once you get in the public all bets are off on how things will go:)

For sure!😉@ravenwind43

Yikes! Congrats on keeping your cool at the grocer...but I certainly understand. No need to make a situation worse and I'm sure others, including the clerk, knew that you were the civil one. As for the flirty friend and the hair...lol...it happens. Good stories!
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Pinto Lol...I seem to wander into these situations
trackman11 · 61-69, M
I have a feeling his compliment was sincere and your hair was actually only blown in three directions max 😃.

You handled the other situation admirably.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@trackman11 I hope so and thank you🙂
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Great story. Thank you for sharing
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@SweetMae Thanks for reading! 🙂
ReneeT · 61-69, F
Some people should never be in the checkout lines when they have these episodes of wanting to be in charge of everything. Glad you had the boxing outlet before that. Don't worry ravenwind, I'll bet the hair still looked great.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@ReneeT It looked like I wrassled a bear;) JK. Models pull off wind swept hair..I don't think I did lol.
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43 lol. I know how you felt. Any strong wind and my hair looks like it's been through a wind tunnel. And it has some curl and thickness to it and that adds to the awful picture
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Wow! What a day. Glad the disturbed person didn’t go postal. Also glad you met an old friend.

I hope all is well. I’m impressed with your boxing. I loved doing that at the gym.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Livingwell Thanks for commenting! I find boxing such a stress relief ....not sure how good I am🙂
JustNik · 51-55, F
I think you handled that the best way possible. Can’t expect to reason with someone who’s lost theirs. And obviously your classmate doesn’t mind the windblown look. Don’t we call that “beachy waves” now or something?? 😉😂👍
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@JustNik I hope it was just as I went back out but I was thinking oh no....I look like I was just in a tsunami rofl

😄😄🤭
Absolutely adorable story my friend.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Magenta You?! No way my friend 🙂 lol
Magenta · F
@ravenwind43 Hah! I've mellowed a little with some age. ;-)
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Magenta lol. I think I have as well
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
As sad as it is to say, I'm really not surprised. There are just some people out there among us who are wound way too tight. I can picture the husbands face from your descriptions. Worn and weary. 🤦‍♂️
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@WindTherapy I did feel bad for him. The grandchild was young enough and appeared oblivious in the store, but I imagine his life is one of apologies and wishing to be somewhere else.
WindTherapy · 56-60, M
@ravenwind43 Probably true. The worst part is that children often mimic what they see. Hopefully they have some other role models whom are better equipped to mold them.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@WindTherapy I hope so we well!:)

Aw I feel really sorry for that woman with mental health issues I hope she/ they’re ok.

You did the right thing not taking her behaviour personally.

I would have don’t they same.

@SW-User Thanks..I figured I was far from her only public target.🙂

When I moved to Lansing, Michigan, I had never seen a Mennonite before in my life. I was standing in line getting my groceries, and I admit I was staring a little, wondering why this woman and her daughter were both wearing identical ugly brown shoes, and why they were wearing the same skirt. All of a sudden, this perfectly normal looking guy with them, (the husband), with a beard, starts shouting at me from four aisles away, shouting at me that I am dressed indecently. I think my top was cut in a vee neck...Cold Water Creek is usually not indecent...😂.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@4meAndyou 😁 LOL!!!!! I am picturing the expression on your face.
4meAndyou · F
@ravenwind43 I didn't know he was shouting at ME at first. I must have looked confused. I was buying apples, and I think I started chattering to the woman next to me in line that Cortlands were VERY good for making apple pie! 😂
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@4meAndyou A very good deterrent hehe. I agree on the apples also:)

This is a great post. Enjoyed reading it.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Carissimi Thanks! And, it's great to see you!!🙂🙂

I used to own a diner, and I can agree that the more calm you are while they are ranting, the more upset they become! One 'lady' complained about EVERYTHING about the meal...after she had eaten 3/4 of it. I calmly listened to her and was going to comp part of her meal (against my instinct), and she said loudly "You are just rude!" I asked what she would like me to do, and she replied "You are such an a**hole! I replied to her "What an amazing coincidence..." I didn't comp anything, and her husband paid the tab.
The customers in the booth behind her said that everything was perfect for them. :)
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@oregnsrb I can imagine owning a diner had nightmares galore!
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Should have cold cocked her right there......... :P I kid. Some people love to wallow in misery. ;)

You are such a flirt. 😚

ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Degbeme Yes! My trainer even has pink gloves for me..so girly hehe
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@ravenwind43 awwww.. how cute. 😍
good of you for being the bigger person. next time she may not be so lucky. lol why cant folks just take their damn meds. LOL
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@MayorOfCrushtown Yes! lol. I didn't add to my post that when I was in the car and leaving she was walking down the row of carts looking for quarters!
@ravenwind43 having worked in retail for awhile, sometimes the toughest thing to do is smile and remain calm while some nut rages on you. and i have learned, the longer you stay calm, the madder they get. LOL we had a lady one night rage at one of my coworkers constantly for about 15 minutes, swearing, etc. she stepped over the line and dropped the N bomb and my "former co-worker" pulled off her name badge, quit, and whipped that ladys ass in the parking lot. a person can only take so much.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@MayorOfCrushtown I usually try to be extra nice to retail people when I can because of the nonsense they up with...🙂
Fungirlvape · 61-69, F
I would have hit that woman and possibly kidnapped the child, but I admire you for keeping your cool.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Fungirlvape To be honest I was concerned for that kid being with those two, mostly her and the erratic behavior.
Fungirlvape · 61-69, F
@ravenwind43 my true thoughts she is doing a lot of damage that will stay with the kid forever.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Fungirlvape Unfortunately.

@ChemDawg At one time I might have said something, but I decided to chill. I really do think the vigorous work out put me in a better headspace. :)
