I worked in a private nursing home for a time, and the owner used to provide food for the nurses, CNA's and others. We were allowed to eat the leftovers from the patient's meals, and if there was not enough of that, there was always a big tub of tuna salad in the fridge in the break room, along with free loaves of bread, free coffee, free cereal, and free soda.

@Wraithorn It was great. Canned tuna (or even canned chunk chicken) is usually cheap and easy to fix. Americans eat a lot of peanut butter, also, because it is so cheap, and there is the old fall back, grilled cheese.
One summer I had to feed my sister-in-law's children, and it was and extra expense I could not afford because I wasn't working that summer, so we ate a lot of ramen noodle soup and peanut butter sandwiches.
