What's your perspective on regrets? Do you have any in your life?

CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Waste of an emotion but we can't help it sometimes. Yes, I have a big one but I tend to remind myself where I was emotionally at that time and it usually fully explains my decisions. It's easy to look back and see where I made a mistake but who could have known then? Plus we tend to look at things from the perspective of the older version of us and forgot what we felt like about the life when we were younger.

@CrazyMusicLover hindsight and regret often go together don't they.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I believe if we do not have any regrets we have not learned much.
I suppose that may be a different take on it than some people have.
But, as humans we are going to make mistakes, fail to do things that might enrich our lives, and we are going to hurt people from time to time and if we don't regret any of that what does it say about us?
I guess, I believe, the best thing you can do with regret is learn from it, otherwise you become a bulldozer mowing everyone down in your path and never having much empathy
greencompass · 36-40, F
@Justmeraeagain yes, it seems learning from regrets is good not only for ourselves but others as well
It's cliche but I regret the things I haven't done. Fear and anxiety can rob you of so much potential.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@MrBlueGuy that's so very true, on fear and anxiety. RIP potentials..
I have done multiple mistakes in my life but thats because I am in the present position to look back and ponder .But back in the days, whatever I did was give my best in whatever situation I was in .
So its not exactly a regret bec I tried giving my best in the past .
greencompass · 36-40, F
@Caleidoscope that's all we can do at any given time eh, giving your best.
itsok · 31-35, F
For most of the things I’ve regretted, I fully believe I did the best I could with the knowledge and coping skills I had at the time. There are a few things I think I will always regret and never forgive myself for.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@itsok it really does help to realize you did the best you could with what you got at the time doesn't it. I hope you find some peace for those few things.

Feeling regretful is a cycle. Some blame our premitive mind for it. Ideally, it should not have any place in our lives. But we are human beings and emotions are what makes us human. But Coming out of that cycle is WIN situation for anybody.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@DanielsASJ getting out of a regret cycle would be a win for sure
I regret being shy. I regret not taking chances I should have. I regret not being a better person when I had the opportunity in the past.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@Teggy all we can do is learn from them as we move forward eh
@greencompass Im endlessly learning day by day.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
I have a lot of regrets, I try not to ruminate on them. I feel like the only thing I can do now is try to learn from them.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@SlippingAway that seems to be the thing to do, to learn from them
SomeIrishPerson · 31-35, M
For me, regret is a choice. I don't bother with that sort of thing. The past is beyond my control and it's a waste of my time.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@SomeIrishPerson I love your perspective and attitude on it. Thanks for sharing!
SomeIrishPerson · 31-35, M
@greencompass
You're welcome. Thank you for asking an interesting question.
Yes.

I think @exexec said it well.
exexec · 70-79, C
Yes, a few regrets for things I have done, but more regrets for things I did not do.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@exexec same! I wonder why it hits us harder, the things we didn't do..
@greencompass Because the what-ifs could be anything, while the actually-dids have known consequences.
SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
Certainly. Lots. Such a joy to constantly explore them with a bit of chronic overthinking.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@SpectralMourning such an exquisite joy eh.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
Yes the day I caused my sister's death. It's my biggest regret in my life and I still struggle with it now
greencompass · 36-40, F
@Cigarguy it must weigh a lot on you..
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
Very few, mostly over things I really wanted, then bought and realized it was a waste of money on something I just did not need!
greencompass · 36-40, F
@CougarLisa haha relatable.
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@greencompass we girls and our shopping...lol
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
I have a few. Sometimes they hit me, but for the most part I just make sure not to repeat the same mistakes.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@ScreamingFox not repeating them seems to be the way to go👍🏻
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Many, and the older I get and the more I look back, the more regrets I find/remember.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@ChipmunkErnie that's the trouble with looking back isn't it
RisingMorningStar7 · 36-40, M
They haunt me because I was trying to say yes but I was stopped.
wackidywack · 26-30
maybe, but i guess. I'm only human
greencompass · 36-40, F
@wackidywack yes as humans we often don't have all the information and/or tools to make the best decisions in the long run.
eMortal · M
I've had a few; a few to mention.🎶
greencompass · 36-40, F
@eMortal I did what I had to do..
And saw it through without exemption🎶
ElRengo · 70-79, M
Some important ones, yes
EBSVC · 36-40, T
I use them as fuel for personal improvement. They serve no purpose other than that.
greencompass · 36-40, F
@EBSVC what a healthy and adaptive response🫡
EBSVC · 36-40, T
@greencompass Personal growth is what we all have to work with, yea?
greencompass · 36-40, F
@EBSVC definitely. It's all we can do, to try and be better than how we were yesterday.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
