I don't know why this dream was so awful. Objectively, it sounds just weird, but it was horrible.
I think it was mostly the repetitiveness of it.
I was trying to find firewood for a group of people who were all diametrically opposed to me politically. But there was no firewood anywhere in this extremely weird town, which was closed off by walls on all sides, and there was nothing outside of the town. A detail I don't fully remember is that I was unable to convince anybody that one thing should have been done, but I've lost the one thing. I didn't write it down fast enough. And there was some rule about how everybody had to penetrate another group member, but I think that was added in the last few cycles of the dream.
The nightmarish quality was that the dream just kept going and going and going, for what felt like hours. I knew it was a dream, and I kept trying to exit the dream and have another dream, but I couldn't. I would wake myself up slightly, return to REM state, and it was the same damn dream.
