Not me, but my father. He and I have talked about this very thing many times.
He goes out to coffee every single day. Same place, about the same time. He makes acquaintances this way, people he chats with. A few he likes a few he does not. He gets to know the waitstaff. Everyone knows him by name, but he’s still a very lonely man.
If you live in a larger area there are clubs and groups to join based on interests or hobbies. But unless you can make a connection with someone, those leave won’t help much.
Connecting with your community through activities and taking up art are the other suggestions.
We live in very lonely times. You’re not alone I’m feeling this way.

@nonsensiclesnail I've been doing all of those things. I've joined organizations, attended meetups, taken classes in the community, i even joined a church briefly, but these people don't regard me as anyone in their inner circle. i'm just an acquaintance or just above that. like i get invited out, but when i have a gathering at my place, they say they'll come and then don't show up. also, i'm just lonely for intimacy and connection. i want to be someone's number 1. but trying to connect with people who aren't interested in connecting is humiliating and demoralizing.

@blindbob I wish I could be of more help. I think we all want that. A someone. I’m sorry you’ve not found yours.

I'm more touch starved than lonely. I think about hiring a cuddler

@SailorMarz I have a friend who has a friend who has cuddle services. He provided her the service at a discount and she said it was a great experience.

I don't get lonely.
I've always said: "If I can't enjoy my own company, how can I expect someone else to enjoy my company"
