Then vs now?

Growing up, what skills/abilities/knowledge did you think youd need most and invested time and effort developing?

And now as an adult, do you agree with those investments or do you wish you'd chosen differently?

When I was 15 I applied for University and got in. My timing was off and there was only one course left: Registered Nursing. But that didn't appeal to my 15 year old self and I turned it down wanting apply next year. Things happened and I never did reapply.
I have been working in and around hospitals for the past 18 years...😓

I was a premed major 50 years ago. Partied a lot and chose an AS in electronics technology because grades suffered. So I honed technical skills, leveraged the 80s techno boom and became a self-taught design engineer. Eventually specialized in test automation. No regret’s whatsoever. Had a great career and worked along side people with graduate degrees. Still loved medicine though and worked part time as an ambulance emt for 12 years. Was going to do paramedic school but couldn’t and make a mortgage. Learned many life skills as well. Do anything different? Not have blown a chance to be an md. But overall very grateful to have what I had.

Written communication, typing, observation & critical thinking. Built a career on them but in different ways than I had imagined. Probably would have included more oral communication, public speaking if I had foreseen the direction mass communication would be taken.
