What's the place where you grew up like nowadays?

The place where I grew up in Northern Illinois is a sadly a crime ridden dump, now. Prior to the mid-2000s, most of the crime in the town was confined to the low income subdivisions on the southeast side. But in the mid 2000's it really started to deteriorate, and by the time we moved in 2011, crime had spread to other areas including the subdivision where I lived.

It was a rural farming community. Dairy farms were a common site. The farms are all gone, replaced by wall to wall housing developments and condos. Most of the things that were individualistic about the town have been torn down and replaced by the usual mega stores: Wal Mart, Home Depot, etc.
I look at the places we used to play as kids, hang out as teenagers, where I parked my first car on a deserted farm driveway with that special girl from school, and I try to picture them the way they used to be. But it gets harder to see.
