What's the place where you grew up like nowadays?

The place where I grew up in Northern Illinois is a sadly a crime ridden dump, now. Prior to the mid-2000s, most of the crime in the town was confined to the low income subdivisions on the southeast side. But in the mid 2000's it really started to deteriorate, and by the time we moved in 2011, crime had spread to other areas including the subdivision where I lived.

Ironically, my earliest memories were neighbors who were from the South and had the same ways as my parents, and everybody watched out for each other’s children. Then we moved to the suburbs. The old neighborhood is "gentrified" now.
