When you were growing up, what was something you ate on a dare, or

[c=800000]Out of curiosity? [/c]
I remember sampling part of an acorn.

I was extremely curious once, so I cracked the shell of a raw egg and drank it. It was neither good nor bad, really.

I ate acorns but nobody dared me. I did it on my own, gathered up about a quart of them, shelled them, boiled in salty water about 3 changes of water, then drained and roasted them in the oven. I was 9 years old and hungry for a salty snack. Nobody was at home when I did it, it was an experiment. And I had never been taught how to process acorns the Cherokee way…I guess it was some kind of instinct. As I found out about 15 years ago not all acorns are alike…some are so full of tannins that it’s probably impossible to make them edible.

Rattlesnake, while I worked at a summer camp in Colorado. It does, in fact, taste like chicken.

Oh we all took turns eating gooseberries we found growing in a village. They were really sour but each one of us ate some. I’d like to grow some now and dry them. I think they are like Persian Zereshk that I use to cook with chicken, chopped onions, carrots and potatoes in a stew.

I was dared to chug a quart carton of chocolate milk. I did it, but felt cheated of having enjoyed it. Instant queasiness too.

@SW-User [c=800000]Yes, chocolate milk is pretty rich. [/c]

The little green apples off the tree at the end of the alley, grass, and a milk bone.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JustNik we’d eat those 🍏on the farm. The adults would see us do it and tell us to be careful or we’d get a bellyache but I don’t ever remember that happening.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@JustNik [c=800000]I think all of us ate grass. 🤔[/c]

@ProfessorPlum77 lol! Not good. I really recall this other tiny little pepper that looked like a tiny cranberry and that thing was the worse.

@Iwillwait LOL. 🌶️
