Made redundant at work, desperate situation. Arranged a job-swap with another government employee who'd unsuccessfully sought a redundancy payout to commence a new career as a medical student. He got the payout, ie mine, that he needed and that was no good to me. I got the new job I needed and that he was giving up. It was all settled with the executives within one tense week. For me it realised twenty years of wanting to work in his field, and the new job was next door to my home. When we met to finalise it, we smilingly shook hands in an unrepeatable moment of Anglo-Saxon male understanding and success. It was all down to the intervention of a light acquaintance of both of ours who knew our respective situations.
