At what point does something you borrow become yours?

You borrow something, they don't ask for it back, you somehow don't offer it back,, when does ownership transfer to you ? I borrowed some jeans from my brother, and one day, they just became mine.

The way I look at it, if I borrow something then I am only going to keep it as long as I need it or am using it (unless they ask for it back before I'm done with it). If I am done with it I'm going to take it back or at least offer to give it back...I won't wait for them to ask for it, they shouldn't have to.
