Yes. It was for a cancer patient. That's probably one of the most depressing times of my life

SW-User
I went to my wife's funeral.
It was the most horrible day in my life.
...but the worst part of it was...
everyone there arrived with partners or friends...
even her mother and father had each other..

and at the end....

they all left with those people to go off for drinks or dinner etc...
.. but i was left just standing there next to her coffin...

all alone.

I'll never forget how that felt..
.. the first time not being able to leave with her..
... and i realised that when you lose the love of your life,
.. everyone else leaves you as well.

@LyricalOne I think you are right, it probably makes people think that i'll happen to them at some point. I guess we all think it'll happen when were 80. I like the idea of a grief group and glad it helped you. I should find one.
LyricalOne · F
@SW-User Absolutely, “there but for the grace of God” kinda thing. The grief groups definitely helped. I used an organization called GriefShare. Just checked and they’re also in Australia. 🙂

I have been to 7 in my life so far...all 4 of my grandparents, my best friend 30 years ago, my ex-wife's grandfather, and most recently my own father's this past Wednesday. There have been a few others where I didn't get to attend the funeral, but I did go to the funeral home and pay my respects.
Yeah, I don’t do funerals anymore after a classmate passed. The screams of a mother burying her child is something ill never forget
SW-User
@Insomniac100 The screams of emotional pain and agony are very scary.

Only once and while it was sunny for the whole week. It started to rain when we left the mourning house (I can't find how it's called in English - a building in the cemetery area where the deceased are held before they are buried) and the coffin was carried to the grave.

Strangely, it wasn't as depressing as I thought it would be. Just sad. Depressing moments come when it's all over, people go home and you have time to think about it all.
SW-User
Yeah and I didn’t even know them

A school teacher was the first one I went to probably it was around 1984
My mother I think it was 1995, my baby 2006
Grandparents also I cannot remember the year
SW-User
@SW-User Your baby? Wow. My dad's was in August 2011 and then an uncle's 5 years later in December 2016.
MattJunio · 26-30, M
Yes. I have been to a couple. My grandfather’s was the most depressing for me. I lost the true father figure when he passed.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
Yes, many. I think it's supposed to be like that. I do like to visit the cemetary every now & then. The peace there is out of this world.
Well though you were sad you
know what a funeral is about
When yours come someday
You will know how to handle it
Jammy · 51-55, M
