I do not for one minute believe that this planet and all life on it is the only life there is in the entire universe. There may by chance even be other humans out there somewhere...who knows. There may be other civilizations that are far more advanced than we ever dreamed of....again who knows. Do they actually have the capability to explore space and may have or may be visiting here? It might be remotely possible, but I highly doubt it seriously. Even the nearest solar system to ours is so far away that the probes we sent hurling into space (and are still transmitting) decades ago have not even come close to them yet. Wondering and dreaming about it makes for good science fiction stories (be it adventure or horror), but until hard evidence is presented to me...even if it is a probe sent like we have done or I meet one my self personally, then I'll just continue to enjoy watching Star Wars and Star Trek. The answer from me here is … no.🤠

No. The distance and investment completely preclude this possibility.
@Mamapolo2016 Scientists are in agreement that all of the physical laws are now discovered. We must work within them and not imagine magical solutions based on past progress.
Before Einstein, scientists believed that all physical laws to be discovered were already discovered. Of course, that was proven wrong.
If we somehow manage to come up with the Theory Of Everything that even explains dark matter and dark energy, can we know if the TOE is all there is?
If we cannot know that there is nothing beyond the TOE, it might be presumptuous to call it TOE, like scientists did before Einstein. But since scientific method is inductive, I think it is impossible to know for certainty. (And hence the name, theory.)
@Abstraction How can the odds be low in an infinite universe? How can odds even be CALCULATED in an infinite universe? The nature of infinity is that it does not end. You would never come to the last stop sign.
I see that some scientists are beginning to question whether infinity is a real concept at all.
It is amusing to me that for milennia, scientists (although they may have been called necromancers or djinn) have been learning a thing and expanding that thing as a description and explanation for All That Is. A theory.
Humanity in general gives any new theory the horse laugh for a variable period of time. but eventually as young humans get educated in that theory, it becomes fact.
It remains fact until a new generation says, Wait just a doggone minute! If what you say is true, how do you explain this stuff over here?
'We can't.' And another new theory is born.
I can't comprehend, except in the most basic way, what infinity is. There's another number after whatever number you care to name. There's another stretch of space beyond the furthest point you explore, ever.
We know little about our own Earth's oceans. How can we possibly predict what might happen or exist beyond this little bump in the cosmic road known as Earth, out to the next step after an unending number of steps? Or almost that far, if they were wrong about infinity?
Infinity swings both ways. Do we even know where our position is between infinitely small and infinitely large? Is there a universe within a drop of water that may be grander than the Milky Way? I cannot imagine with all the vastness, both big and small that we are here alone. But, if we are, we sure have a heavy responsibility.
@Deadcutie The cars? If they each performed a 180 degree turn and drove towards one another at 50 mph each, the closure rate would be at 100 mph.
I'm not a physicist but I do find myself spellbound by quantum physicist. When they say nothing can travel faster than light they seem to really mean it, "negative" matter moving from one end of the universe to the other instantaneously.
@Heartlander again the cars are still only moving at 50 mph regardless of what the closure rate implies.. I’d like to read a source that mentions matter that can Instantly travel to the opposite sides of the universe ? Because that sounds just science fiction to me
For the wormhole/spooky thing do a search on "quantum entanglement". What it suggests is that particles have relationships to one another and sync together, like in pairs or groups. The relationship is instantaneous, even if each of the paired particles are on opposite ends of the universe.
Also try a search on "negative mass". That is really mind blowing. When something with negative mass gets shoved it moves backwards.
Science fiction? A lot of very smart physicists say otherwise.
I think there probably is other life out there, and I suppose there's a remote possibility that they might be able to travel to Earth, but I also think that if they were intelligent to be able to travel here, they would be smart enough to observe us for a while before deciding whether or not to come and spend time among us. And if they observed us for a while, I'm pretty sure that they would run the other way, if they saw all the fighting and the drama that happens here.
There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy. We’re finding this out all the time. We know a lot now, but that doesn’t preclude there being others who know more, and it’s a bit arrogant for us to not even consider that possibility.
If there is intelligent life out there, they'd be smart enough to avoid Earth. On the other hand, if they have visited/are visiting, then they must be as pathetic as we are... 😂
No. 1. Despite many optimistic calculations, the odds of intelligent life are deemed to be ridiculously low even in a universe this size. 2. Fermi paradox and later developments on this - https://www.sciencealert.com/physicist-proposed-horrifying-explanation-why-we-never-see-aliens-fermi-paradox-berezin 3. Distances - yes maybe there's an approach we haven't yet comprehended. Good luck surviving a wormhole.
