Several times.

SW-User
Yeah. My mom. She died in my arms
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@SW-User I am sorry you had to experience that. But I am glad you were there for her too.

Yes, and each time was very different... Some of those I was blessed to be bedside and present as a comfort are for loved ones who's time with this world was ending. Some experiences are peaceful. Some were prolonged and with some discomfort, yet others were shorter and seemingly without any difficulty, pain or fear. I firmly believe in hospice services and have worked with three different services for the final and end stages of life for family members.

And then there was the little girl, I'll never forget, who died as a result of a terrible accident in 1996 that took place directly in front of me. The memory and visual still haunts me to this day. I believe there is a very special place for the young souls to live freely and forever in peace when they're so unexpectedly and quickly taken from this earth and the physical presence of loved ones.

@bonviveur Hospice service can be such a blessing to those ending their lives and their families.

I get wondering if one would necessarily know that. There's that article where they calculate the supposed odds of a murderer walking past (and not murdering you). I'd think deaths would be maybe an order of magnitude more common. I think I'm going to say no on the technicality that I didn't know or watch them die, so it's not the same. But I've been within about 100 yards of one dead in car-accident, one in car-bomb, two people dying in fires (and one I saved), and 9 in a mass-shooting. And my father who we said goodbyes to at a hospital, we didn't know how long he'd survive but all had to be at work next Monday, and received word he'd passed away just as we left the hospital.

Yeah, and it's still hard to talk about.

Yes, my father. Died of cancer. I don't wish that upon anyone, nor to watch it.
SW-User
@DeWayfarer My dad died of Sickle Cell Anemia (didn't see him die).
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@SW-User My dad's last words were: Oh my...

That was the best part. The previous weeks were hell. I imagine that would have been the same for you.

They are no longer in any pain.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Yes. It is never pleasant. Even when they just slip away.

No but I've been in situations where I could've died seconds from something.

They die when I'm not around.
Maybe because I'm not around too often anyways! :(

I watched my long time girlfriend slowly dying for two months. One day she gathered up all of her energy and grabbed my neck and kissed me passionately, and said I love you and she died in my arms... It was the best feeling, but the saddest day in my life !!
indyjoe · 56-60, M
Sort of...I was at the scene of an auto accident at the time of the accident and arrived at the car to see one dead already and three others near death.
ChatterinSeuss · 61-69, M
Unfortunately too many times.. Seeing so much death is not natural
SW-User
