If You Could Speak (the idle wonderings of a madman)

by:Rob Paquin

Single solitary leaf
Having fallen from your tree
And there you go drifting by
Floating down the stream

It makes me wonder where you came from
I wonder what you’ve seen
It makes me wonder if that you could speak
Would you tell your tale to me

Would you let me know how you did grow
And how life started in the Spring
Would you say that just today
Fall became a thing

Would you reminisce of birds
That nested near your branches
Or would you tell of your loss
Now that the season just advances

Would you sing the song of bees
Or rhyme of butterflies
Or tell the tale of the story
Those moments you drifted through the sky

Are you now contented
Floating on the waters surface
Do you feel satisfied
Having served your general purpose

Single solitary leaf
Drifting towards some end
The tree you once lived inside
Waits for Spring to come again

Beautiful. I ponder the same things in nature..

@moonlightlullaby today was another very quiet morning in the woods.

I hadn’t ever been down that particular trail before, though it looked much the same as the many I have been down.

As always, I appreciate the kind thoughts and am glad that you liked this small collection of words.

Have a beautiful day, my friend.

@HikingMan Those are the best.

Thank you and I wish you the same.

What a gorgeous post. 💚
Being a tremendous lover of nature, always, it's quite relatable. But my mind is a bit quieter in those solitaire moments.

@Magenta my mind doesn't really ever shut off. I've probably written a thousand rhymes inside my head only to forget them by the time I reach my laptop or decide to take out my phone.,,

Thank you very much for the kind words.

Nice, but I think you abducted it, tore it from its parent. There it was enjoying the tranquil breeze and the sound of a nearby stream. How heartless can a guy be!!, taking away the freedom of a natural entiry.
Nicely written poem though, thanks.....😏

@HikingMan I would answer you but my pencil has broken and they wont let me have sharp objects where I live. But thanks for being a sport.

@Uncfred I'll send some crayons in the morning mail.

@HikingMan Thanks, any colour as long as they are blue.
