I started my get ready for spring bathing suit body conditioning this past weekend.
I started to cut back portions and taking long walks up and down hills in my forest to survey the land. It is easier to do so with all the leaves off the trees and the winter snows melted off. I found these two buck sculls the I will display some where. The one on the left I believe I shot with a bow and could not find so it was a sweet find/recovery for me. The right one was an older buck.
today's exercise was going up and cutting down two young poplar trees to bring down hill to the new home O have been slowly building to debark and put in side the house to cure for a year before I can use them as railings and to build furniture with. I need to fell and debark four more for sure. Using an 1800's draw knife with wear some fat off of this 60 year old for sure, Good buy to my Thanksgiving and Christmas fat stores.
What I need to fill in as of yet and why I am harvesting the trees.

You have created a beautiful property. Maybe some pine trees as they grow fast and are great for using for building in the future, meanwhile they provide green during the colder months and home for wildlife
@meggie I have a few pine trees here and there, but the money trees by volume are the hard wood forest that I have. I have mostly All varieties of Oak trees, polar, and cherry, and mostly Oak as the most abundant species. Oaks acorns also provide the desired wildlife food source.
@WillaKissing wow you really have the best trees then. Pines are cheaper and the wood isnt as good as what you have.i love gardening and bought some grafted apple trees today. One side is red apples and the other side green.
@meggie Perfect! I have a nice flat area I cleared out on a ridge top a little over an acre that I plan on putting in a small orchard of mixed apples and pears and Cherrie trees.
I love to garden for vegetables with flowers around the edges on the garden. But I need to make raise box gardens because the wildlife eat it all before I can lol.
