Because it’s an American site🙂

Isn't it reasonable to say that anyone who claims that there is some-or-other creator is a creationist?
When people say they "don't believe in evolution" they're forgetting that their belief is not required.
I can believe all I want to that the Earth is flat, and I can believe all I want to that the Earth is round, but the evidence is unequivocal... the Earth is an oblate spheroid. In light of the evidence, any belief in flatness would be mere self-indulgence. It is the same for evolution.
I accept the evidence that underpins the Theory of Evolution, I accept that the Theory is a consistent and coherent explanation for that evidence (all of that evidence), and therefore... I accept the Theory of Evolution.
Well the only reason I can think of is that the only people that ever question evolution are religious people, so for the rest of the world it's not really an interesting statement.

Uh yeah dude... maybe you didn't notice, but the theory of evolution has been debunked. On scientific grounds.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
Onddruid, it'll save you time if I tell you now that Djce45 has some weird theory that he thinks is the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, but isn't.

As near as I can make out, it's that straw-man theory touted by creationists... the one that has some ape-like creature morphing (via four or five steps) into a hominid and then a homo sapiens. You know the one... it's commonly found in creationist pamphlets.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the only 'theory' he's willing to discuss.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
I would have thought that it should be categorised under 'Science'... still, it's early days for this site. Perhaps we can tidy this up later.
lol! I have never even met a creationist, I think they are a very typical US-problem. I bet many of them are also farmers who understand very well that they need to breed their finest livestock and plant the best potatoes so that the next generation will inherit desirable properties, but then they go to a church where some preacher is telling them Darwin is Satan or something like that.

Yes, mrmistery, I agree, the 'chicken or egg' question is a wonderful way to show the importance of defining terms (in my experience, younger teenagers gain a lot from this example). For anyone unfamiliar with the exercise, we need to choose from among four definitions:

1. Which came first, the chicken or (just any old) egg?

2. Which came first, the chicken or an egg laid by a chicken?

3. Which came first, the chicken or an egg containing a chicken?

4. Which came first, the chicken, or an egg laid by and containing a chicken?

...and of course, once the original semantic ambiguity has been removed, it's a simple exercise to demonstrate how the Theory of Evolution provides the solution.

Spoiler Alert! 1 = egg: 2 = chicken: 3 = egg: 4 = chicken

Except Onddruid, I don't think many people dispute the planet being round. Many people, don't belive in evolution, and many of these same people believe that the wwe wrestling is real!
ordinaryguy · 41-45, M
It is considered as related with the religion as well because the discussion about the theory of evolution got so much out of science and many ppl think it is just a religious problem. I read and listened many discussions about it but almost all of them are far from science.
and i think the evolution theory is totally irrelevant about the God itself. In my opinion the exisitng of God and the theory of evolution should be different discussions
Persephone · 51-55, F
Quite. Who has categorised the groups? EP or Similar Worlds?
1961dave · 61-69, M
Well said Janine!
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
laotzu92: I'd much rather debate, but that requires material to debate... some sort of contention or proposition.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Madhatter · 31-35, M
I suppose because whether intended or not, it does directly deal with religious beliefs. Or lack thereof.

the thought will be: atheism is a way of thinking about religion. I think also in a library you ll find books about atheisme just in that category....
It would still make as much sense as having a group called "I accept the theory that the world is round"
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Did your genes produce the bright beautiful woman that you are?
1961dave · 61-69, M
New at this apparently you're not a fan of the shirt, to some people it's hilarious. Or maybe you just don't like humor.
I feel like this guy now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0FwpRfmrsU
In my library books about atheism are filed under philosophy.
Newatthis · 70-79, M
Evolution is always of interest to me.

i guess all these groups are just copied from experience project

lol Persephone! Funny shirt!
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Funny! Sent why can't religious people also believe in evolution?

You are a formidable polemicist, Janine.
1961dave · 61-69, M
It is a strange place for it, unless someone wanted to taunt the religious people, lol
1961dave · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2: I'm not gonna dig around and read a bunch of Bullshit when ghere are tons of museums full of proof. Also the alternative view is silly, it's not about proof, it's about "believing" "having faith"!
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
and faith, of course, is merely pretending to know something that, in fact, you do not know.

So, at heart, Djce45 is urging us to just pretend... and seems to feel that's a sound basis for a meaningful life!
1961dave · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2: Exactly, religion is all about believing without proof. He shouldn't ask us to dig around, it certainly won't prove anything for religion.
1961dave · 61-69, M
You just want to bash people, everything you said was pointless.
Persephone · 51-55, F
I really want the t-shirt of God shooting Darwin (from the film Paul)
fazer1k · 56-60, M
That's as ridiculous as categorizing 'I Believe In God' under science. I can only assume that either the categories were set by an anti-science theist, or that it was a simple mistake.
1961dave · 61-69, M
Holy Shit Onddruid! Are you telling me Darwin is not Satan?!
KeanuChrist · 26-30, M
Maybe to troll the religious fucks.
