I mean they’re right. I mean what were you thinking? You won’t get paid and you’re going to lose your job like that! Your job is something you’re not supposed to play around with and you took a really huge risk of taking off. I mean they may be OK with it but it’s still a huge risk you took. your best friend has a point to when it was a stupid thing you did. I mean you do need stuff you need to get right? It doesn’t even matter if you get PTO. You still have to do your job and if you get fired that’s your fault.
Vegeta · 41-45, M
@LaylaTheTallGirl sometimes we need time off

MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Don’t make your employer a priority. They don’t see you as one.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@MrBrownstone Dude I didn’t get fired. My boss approved it. If she didn’t approve it it was not OK with that I wouldn’t of gone right?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@ElizabethBabe1994 I didn’t say you got fired. I’m saying in the eyes of the company you are no different than an office chair. Easily replaced.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@MrBrownstone oooh okay gotcha. Besides it was just one day I’m not gonna do anymore less I’m sick or if I need to go to the doctor or if a family member died or sick.
maturedragon · 26-30, M
don't feel guilty at all, if the people are okay with you taking pto then it's fine, I felt guilty taking one day off at my work lol... why are people freaking out in the comments when time off was approved, sometimes you need time off to relax as well
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@maturedragon True. Why am I feeling guilty for? I know I just thought at work in there almost 2 months ago but shit. But still I do understand what my dad‘s telling me and my job goes first and I can’t just takeoff like that. I mean it is true
maturedragon · 26-30, M
@ElizabethBabe1994 both yes and no, mental health should come before anything even your job! you should not let your job rule your life as well, need to sometimes live your life a little even if you've only worked there two months... tbf I quit my job after two and a bit months cause I just could not really take anymore
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@maturedragon I mean they understand about the mental health and all that kind of stuff but I’m talking about taking a day off to go to an event
This should not be an issue and you should not jump through hoops for an employer at the expense of your own health, mental or physical.

Nobody goes to their deathbed whiching they went to more meetings or worked more overtime hours.

A job is a thing you do so you can afford to live. It should not be your life.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow look they understand about the death of someone health and all that kind of stuff but I’m talking about taking a day off to go on a field trip.
@ElizabethBabe1994 Like I said. The experiences in your life you will remember and cherish will not be the moments spent sitting at a desk.

Don't worry about it and live your life.
Freeranger · M
I personally decided not to read down thru the crux of your dilemma. IF, in your estimation, despite your occupation and it's regulations, YOU personally feel that, you need a certain amount of time off to address personal issue, the time you request off is valid. You have a job....but it is NOT the totality of your life is other, more important things intervene. You get to decide that which is valid, and that which is not. Pretty straighforward. What you DO need to understand are the consequences for those actions. If you're not prepared to deal with that, talk to your supervisor.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@Freeranger Yeah that is a good point. They explained to me about that and they said they were okay with it and my boss approved it. Now if she was not OK with it, I wouldn’t of done it. Besides it was just ONE DAY.
PetiteJulie01 · 22-25, F
Wow seriously?! You just took off like that?! What the hell were you thinking? Of course it is a HUGE risk!! Your dad, brothers and your best friend are right. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. That WAS a huge risk you took and that can really effect your job. If they told you it would effect your classroom, why did you decided to go? I mean you should have said NO. No you can’t go! I mean that is NOTHING to play around with. Your best friend is right. That was a very stupid choice you made and you SHOULD feel guilty.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@PetiteJulie01 yes all that is the truth but it’s already been done and my boss said she was OK with it and have a good time. Yes I do admit it was a huge risk I took but it was worth it.
PetiteJulie01 · 22-25, F
@ElizabethBabe1994 OK as long as your boss is cool with it and that’s good. Just don’t get shocked if you get fired
Poppies · 61-69, F
Wow! What's done is done. I hope you will enjoy your trip instead of having it ruined by guilt!
You used a benefit that you were entitled to and when you get back you are going to be demonstrating what a great and reliable worker you are, right? Quite a while before you will use another PTO day, right? Chill.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@Poppies Right! I mean I explain to them and I went into their office so I can ask them to explain to me what they meant about the effects of taking a day off. And I told him I was going to think about it really hard. Besides it was just ONE DAY. I mean I understand what my dad is telling me that my job goes first and I can’t just takeoff like that and it could have some serious consequences. I mean I get it.
Ferric67 · M
You are entitled to that pto
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@Ferric67 yes that’s true but what my dad and my brothers and my best friend said was true too. I mean my boss said she was OK with it in a teacher I work with said it was fine with her too and I have a good time. To be honest with you I didn’t expect my boss to approve it.
MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M
They're right. Job comes first. Don't play around with your job. Job provides income which is necessary for getting whatever you need. Dead serious by the way.
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@MURD3RM0NK3Y I know. But relax it is just one day. I mean I thought long and hard before I made a decision. I mean my boss said that the employees have a option to use their PTO. Of course I’m not gonna use it all up unless I really need to but I’m not gonna use anymore. It was just one day. My boss and The teacher I work with said they were OK with it and I asked her if her class is going to be OK and she said they’ll be fine. My best friend said how do I know if they really mean it. Then she told me to get ready to lose my job. If we didn’t have PTO I wouldn’t of gone!
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
PTO = Prepare The Others
PetiteJulie01 · 22-25, F
@Jeffrey53 it stands for paid time off but just because they have that doesn’t mean they can just takeoff whenever they want. They can seriously affect their job really bad.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
@PetiteJulie01 it was a joke
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@Jeffrey53 hahaha
DDonde · 31-35, M
PTO is there to be used
ElizabethBabe1994 · 26-30, F
@DDonde true
