Im skipping my new works christmas party. I wanted to go until i found out it s a fancy sit down dinner with drinks and dancing. Bleh. As a food allergy ridden vegetarian id expect i wouldnt enjoy the dinner. I dont want to drink there and dancing with coworkers sounds atrocious lol. So i didnt sign up. Plus you have to pay too. Kind of a bummer. It wouldve been fun to see coworkers outside of work like. Just hang out you know. But sit down dinner no. I do wonder what music they played. Besides that no one i know is having a party not that i know anyone really lol.

I didn't mind them back when I was young.
Felt nice to be included with colleagues i respected and admired.
But as I grew older and more experienced in the work I've come to see them as either gossip gatherings or opportunities for the more gregarious to cosy up to Managers to ingratiate themselves so they can ask endless favours for time off or to be considered for promotion to positions they're unlikely to be the best candidate for.
So if I can't avoid being involved i'll participate to the bare minimum required then once everyone has had a few i'll sneak away.
Personally I like to keep work and time away from it separate because some you work with have a hard time discerning which is which.

I last went before Covid and a someone got very drunk and told the boss exactly what they thought if him. We all had to pay £35 to go which covered the posh venue hire and provided us with two beers or
two wines. After that some people were buying rounds so it worked out a very expensive night.

Saturday night. The class I teach will get together for appetizers and desserts, a white elephant gift exchange,. and lots of visiting. We used to actually party, but now we are in our 60's and just enjoy being togerther.

It's tricky when you work from home. We have a "training" event next week, followed by lunch. There might be a few beers after, but I'm not sure I'm that keen on drinking with people I only know from video calls.

LOL we have a virtual party every year as we’re a fairly small group scattered over the country. It’s a lot of laughs though even if it feels silly.

Free food and an occasion to have fun with dressing up, do I need to say more?

Nah, a waste of time. I used to go a long time ago but things are different now.
I've been to mine- was great mingling and letting my hair down!
