What you see as "Hallowe'en" is a commercialised, meretricious, American supermarket mangling of an ancient English church time of memorial for the dead. I think it has parallels in one or two other European countries, too.
Nothing to do with the supposed Devil at all! Nor with so-called "witches" and plastic toy bats.
The pumpkin stuff is American, but refers to an old Scots children's tradition called "guising" (disguising). They carved (still carve?) turnips, common in the British Isles long before the introduction of pumpkins.
