Happy Birthday, Ruby Bridges

Born September 8, 1954

Very best wishes to her. This is what makes attempts by people like DeSantis and Abbott to erase history so ridiculous—so many of those who lived and witnessed it are still with us.

@bijouxbroussard This is one reason why their efforts are doomed to fail. Another reason is because many of us who didn't have experiences like those of Ruby Bridges won't stand for a distorted, whitewashed version of history.

Just here to agree with both of you. ❤

What a brave and mentally strong child she had to have been, to endure all the ugliness and hate she and her family faced...and not give up then, or now. 🌟

Ruby Bridges is a 1998 television film, written by Toni Ann Johnson, directed by Euzhan Palcy and based on the true story of Ruby Bridges, one of the first black students to attend integrated schools in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1960.

Needless to say, I had to look her up, but I do remember hearing about her.
I can't even imagine what she went through at school.

@4meAndyou As an adult, she wrote about this experience in the Christian magazine Guideposts. I read it online yesterday, and it sounds as if the movie was pretty accurate.

She wrote about how her family's Christian faith is what got her through this. Each morning, she would pray for the people in the angry crowd of protestors, praying Jesus' prayer from the cross: " Father, forgive them. They know not what they do."

She was six years old.

@DrWatson She sounds like a wonderful soul.
Did she take the bus? 🍿
