It's a bargain compared to Trump's Iran 🤣

@emiliya Your title speaks of billions (I am assuming dollars rather than lives) spent by Europe, not Ukraine or Russia. One country declared war. It is within the power of that country to end the war.
emiliya · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl Do you not know that hundreds of billions are being sunk into Ukraine? What do you think about it? We know about Trump's Iran. We now need to talk about Europe's Ukraine.
So talk about Europe's Ukraine.
So talk about Europe's Ukraine.

@emiliya War is a depressing waste of public resources (taxes and manpower) that could be more constructively used for just about anything else. However, without international law and territorial integrity there is nothing else. Which is why, unfortunately, enhanced defence spending must remain Europe's priority. Trump has no such justification in Iran. Hence my aside that Ukraine is a "bargain".

The difference is that Iraq wasn't a threat to America. Russia is a threat to Europe.

It depends on what you mean by "wanted."
Of course Hitler would have preferred it if his fellow Aryans in the UK would have made a "deal" while he carved out ein Grossdeutschesreich extending to the Urals. But after Czechoslovakia, the UK was through making deals with Hitler.
The air Battle of Britain failed, so Operation Sea Lion had to be canceled. However, submarine warfare with the aim of starving Britain out continued, but ultimately that failed too.

@Thinkerbell Yeah, so the plan was to force a deal out of the UK. Hitler knew that occupying the entire British Empire would be a bad idea, it would be much better to have an alliance so he could benefit from the empire without running it.
Hitler wanted to annex all of the continental Germanic countries, occupy Eastern Europe, then retire. But I do think after Hitler, after Nazism as a project had ended, Germany still would be starting new wars because that's just part of Fascism. Fascist movements are bigger than any one person, German Fascism would have continued without Hitler and the specific project of Nazism.
This is one of the reasons Fascism always burns itself out. You can't do war forever, you can't maintain huge empires. This is one of the reasons MAGA is dead now.

Of course he knew it would be impossible for Germany to occupy the entire British empire. Germany couldn't even occupy the entire French empire after the fall of France. Even the collaborationist Vichy French government couldn't do it.
"So viele Heinis gibt's ueberhaupt nicht," as some German general (perhaps apocryphally) remarked about the impossibility of defeating Russia if it wasn't done in a matter of a few months.
Not really. Even without losing a war, Franco's fascism in Spain did not long survive after his death.
The British and French did it for hundreds of years, and were pretty good at it (the French less so*), and they weren't even fascist.
* and the Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and Belgians even less so.

It's either war with austerity or the population takes over and it's socialism. You remember "Better Dead than Red"?
emiliya · 26-30, F
@Roundandroundwego I think “Better Dead than West.” Who wants that garbage coming to their door?

War is an expensive business
I bet you didn't post that when the black clouds were floating over St Petersburg at the start (and finish) of Putin's flagship economic forum.?

@Thinkerbell Russia was forced into the Soviet Union also. It is Bolsheviks with the help of the Kronstadt sailors that led Russia into communism. Those sailors fought the Bolsheviks when they realized they sold them lies. They had seen the communists taking all that had belonged to the Tsars and living the high life.
Trotsky was Ukrainian. Zinoviev was Ukrainian. Skrypnyk was Ukrainian. Uritsky was Ukrainian. Rakovsky was Bulgarian. Lashevich was Ukrainian. Lenin had more German and Swedish heritage than Russian. Stalin was from Georgia.

So Stalin was an equal-opportunity mass murderer?

Cry-Baby-trump is sinking billions into his war with Iran (won in the first hour that continues). The USA doesn't have billions, but he is spending its taxpayer money like there is no tomorrow.
