@Avectoijesuismoi I suppose the USSR forming all of eastern Europe. the Berlin blockade and wall dont really count. And it Crimea really Europe??😷
Avectoijesuismoi · 31-35
@whowasthatmaskedman The Berlin thing was not an invasion they were given that afterworld war Two, when they broke Germany up in two bits, as for the formation of the USSR a lot of that was the slavic countries all binding themselves together as they thought they would benefit. Crimea wasn't exactly and invasion as they more or less invited the Russian back in, the people there will actually tell you they are Russians and not Ukrainians. There are many of those smaller countries that were ex part of the USSR that actually would not exactly resist if Russia did go in Moldova being one, but I don't think Russia actually wants it as would be a big financial burden
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Avectoijesuismoi Sorry. Setting up puppet regimes loyal to Moscow in nation after nation does count in my mind. Complete with secret police. At least the Americans left a veneer of local government and freedom in places like Iran..😷
Avectoijesuismoi · 31-35
@whowasthatmaskedman I don't think that they are the only ones that have pulled that stunt at some point or other in history several of the countries that went around colonizing places did a similar format of things
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Avectoijesuismoi We agree.. And that makes Russia a colonial power in its time. just like the rest..😷
Avectoijesuismoi · 31-35
@whowasthatmaskedman Like I said they are not the only culprits in that area of things and also a whole host of other things that colonial powers carried out as well

Right, so the occupation of the eastern part of Poland from 17 September 1939, deliberately calculated to coincide with Hitler's occupation of the western part, was all imagined? 🤦♀

Are you a bot in St Petersburg?
Russia has never invaded Europe
I was in Frankfurt in West Germany in the summer of 1968 when the Russian tanks rolled into Prague, the capital of the-then Czechoslavakia. Are you a bot in St Petersburg?

Abandoning your earlier case, you provide a perfect example of whataboutism🤣😂
Let's look at some military incursions into those puppet states.
1953 - Soviet troops crush the East German uprising
1956 - invasion to suppress the Hungarian Revolution
1968 - invasion to suppress Czechoslovakian reformists
1970 - invasion of Afghanistan
Romania - constant military presence
Bulgaria - constant military presence
Baltic states - constant military presence
Plenty of invasions in Europe in the last 100 years, @Avectoijesuismoi, PLENTY of them!!
Russia has never invaded Europe ...
And when proved wrong with the examples of all the iron curtain puppet regimes such as Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, and Yugoslavia,@Avectoijesuismoi says

@ElwoodBlues Firstly I said Russia not the USSR so technically none of those incidents can be attributed to Russia as it is now.
Probably quite a few of those the leader of the country might actually have asked or requested that the USSR intervened and help suppress the rebellion yes it happened, will we ever know the complete truth of what went on, very doubtful.
The point I was trying to make is that Russia is not the only one who has invaded another country, helped suppress or suppressed a rebellion, if you look back through history there are many many examples. It pretty much is a case of whoever was one of the powers in the specific time period did much the same thing. Probably the biggest culprits throughout history were the Romans ( Now do we define that as modern day people from Rome only or Italy in general). They went stomping allover the world invading, enslaving and killing people. But nobody seems to hold that against the Italians???
We could also do the Vikings they did a good deal of invading etc as well but once again nobody holds that against Norway today.
Perhaps what we need to do is find out who the very first culprit was for invading someone else's country and hold that individual responsible for setting the trend and making it okay to do so???
But the real bottom line of all this is that as a species humans are a pretty lousy one, that apparently learns very little and that we are more than willing and have been for a very long time now to go around taking other people's space killing each other in ever increasingly efficient ways and generally doing horrible things.

@SunshineGirl That was technically the USSR not Russia and an agreement between both countries to take back what they viewed as historically part of their countries.
If we go down that line then there are a lot of places that have been invaded for instance New Zealand technically belongs to the Maori people, almost anything apart from that are technically descended from invaders. USA, Canada, Australia to name a few are on the same group all were invaded and it was not bloodless either.

Based on your reasoning, Russia should have been banned from assuming the Security Council seat on the break-up of the USSR.

Avectoijesuismoi · 31-35
@ArtieKat Probably true, but I am sure there is probably both an argument for and an argument against why they should or shouldn't have got the seat.
Just maybe something good will come out of Trump actually talking to Putin and getting it sorted out.
Wouldn't it actually be a good thing if the US and Russia could work together ???

@ArtieKat Think what could be achieved if they can bury the hatchet and start solving some of the other challenges that face the planet. There are plenty and collectively they have huge resources and influence
ArtieKat · M
@Avectoijesuismoi I wouldn't turn my back on either Trump or Putin if there was a hatchet or knife anywhere in the room.
You can believe what you like.

Avectoijesuismoi · 31-35
@ArtieKat I always still am of the opinion that we should have built on the shared cooperation that occured during COVID pandemic when it mattered not one tiny iota who had the biggest or the mist powerful military and bombs etc, because it in reality amounted to a useless pile of junk
ArtieKat · M
@Avectoijesuismoi That period in recent history when Putin was building up his troops on the Ukrainian border and denying that he was going to invade? Yeah, right.
Avectoijesuismoi · 31-35
@ArtieKat And you have hit the nail on the head what is missing most is TRUST, and RESPECT if we as humans in general could learn those we would solve a lot of our issues.

@Avectoijesuismoi You may grow up one day, son, and see the world as it really is, not some Utopian image viewed through rose-coloured spectacles.
Have a nice life.

@ArtieKat There are two viewpoints on that some believe it was initially posturing at first, and had someone actually got them to talk it might have be averted.
But the response was to make threats to him if you do this we will do that. Threatening the vast majority of Russians is a silly move, they are the type that if you say I am going to come cut of your nose, they will cut it off themselves and send it to you.
Threatening a Russian from ST Petersburg is really foolhardy they are a different mentality altogether and far more likely to show you they will do.it regardless of your threats.

@ArtieKat Do I believe it can be done no, it is highly unlikely for one reason there are humans in the equation. We including myself are not designed to live in harmony with each other or anything else for that matter.
