What kind of world would we have if America never entered to save Europe?

Interesting question...for me there are personal considerations to it, but that's irrelevant.

Regardless of how much U.S helped Europe in WW2, and the fact Britain needed them, Germany wouldn't have been receptive to a country that wasn't or couldn't be receptive to them (they declared war on the U.S). If they hadn't invaded Russia, Russia alongside Germany could have been very threatening to the Americans. Hitler wasn't a strategist though, so it was never going to happen.

WW2 is really why the U.S became so powerful. It was a great political opportunity for them in many ways.

Britain would have survived, but with some kind of accommodation with Germany. Barbarossa would have gone ahead, but without US support things would have gone very badly for the Russians. Eventually the German war effort would have run out of steam and there would have been peace in Europe. Once Hitler and his immediate successors had passed on, the Third Reich would have evolved into the Fourth Reich, something very like today's European Union, only with more of a red & black motif.

@milkymum1 really? That's interesting - in what way is the UK acting like the Nazis?
milkymum1 · 36-40, F
@Natasmai The reteric they are using against immigrants, other countries,
which was highlighted by many in the media & famous people, last summer the Government refused to help parents with School kids s many were struggling & it took a footballer to get involved before the Government agreed to help,

not keeping many of their own citizens fed as we have more food banks here than Macds now as wages are low but everything else is expensive

now saying migrants aren't welcome even if they are women or Gay, the Tories (the current Government has turned into the BNP (British National Party) which that party has now been banned,

They are happy to pay millions to businesses to prop them up but refusse to pay NHS staff, Teachers, rail workers, Airport workers , Buss workers, Barristers, Postal services, Fire fighters a pay rise

@milkymum1 seems rather melodramatic. You do know what the Nazis did, don't you?

America did not save Europe. The US made Western Europe states their vassals, and the USSR did the same with Eastern Europe. Now almost the whole Europe is an American vassal apart from Russia and Belarus, and to a lesser extent Hungary and Serbia
Harmony · 31-35
@Cierzo I'd rather be a american vassal than a German prisoner.
Cierzo · M
@Harmony You are a prisoner on both cases. I prefer to be free.
Harmony · 31-35
@Cierzo im free

Too many variables to say, without the war we would not necessarily been the first to develop the nuclear option and the what ifs go on and on. Of course the US did not save Europe alone.
Harmony · 31-35
@Subsumedpat but they contributed greatly
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@Harmony OH yea, don't think they would have made it without the US. British barely hung on as it was.

The better question would be: What if Hitler had not declared war on the US?

Recall that many corporations were doing business with the Nazis and many were not too keen on getting into another conflict so soon after WW1.

Due to a US embargo on Japan, rather than try to negotiate, Japan made the decision to attack Pearl Harbor. The US was at war in the Pacific.

Days later, Hitler declared war on the US. Now, the US was at war in Europe, whether they liked it or not.

@Harmony The invasion of Ukraine has turned out to not be the easy cake walk Putin envisioned. Putin has long desired to retake lands lost when the Soviet Union fell. Putin has no problem with bombing Ukraine into oblivion. The Russian army has been exposed to not be the great force advertised, but by troop strength, they outnumber Ukraine like 3 to 1. From recent reports, both sides seem to be running out of ammo. Putin likely reached out to Kim for ammo and weapons.
I am appalled to know that Elon Musk shut down Starlink over Crimea, and thereby sabotaged Ukraine's attack on Russian ships, which would have made a major impact on the war. Looks like we know who Musk is siding with in this conflict.
Do I know what Putin will do next? No. Is he insane enough to use a nuke on Ukraine? Perhaps. If he does....WW3.

What I do see is that Trump supports Putin. Trump called him a genius for invading Ukraine....and more of the Trump Cult/Trump GOP seem to be ready to dump aid to Ukraine.
Harmony · 31-35
@JSul3 Yes it sad that MUSK and Trump seem to be against Ukraine. Putin has embarrassed himself and shamed Russia into where Putin is today. He is now a war criminal and needs to pay for that. I believe that Nato is made stronger because of the war and Ukraine will win overall. It might even spell the end of Russia as a world power. But Putin still has nuclear ability and is very dangerous. It is just a matter of time for Ukraine to win outright.

"It is just a matter of time for Ukraine to win outright."

I hope you are right.

Germany might have developed the atom bomb first. Maybe none of us would be here.
that's funny since it was Sovyet who beat Germany
@Harmony losing many lives doesn't mean they beat Germany
Harmony · 31-35
@YukikoAmagi They bombed them into surrender
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@YukikoAmagi Germany was defeated by American industry, British intelligence, and Soviet blood.

Certainly all three contributed in every way, but Britain and the USSR could not have beaten the German war machine without American planes, tanks, and munitions.

And neither Britain not the USA could muster the numbers of troops that the divide did.

It was a team effort to win with parties needed and that is the truth.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
Without Britain and the US would have been a coin toss.
Hard to say- if you never entered and Europe had fallen to Nazi rule, you'd be next so it was for your benefit too.
Harmony · 31-35
@BritishFailedAesthetic I agree. The USA saved my country
JSul3 · 70-79
@Harmony With a bit of help from Russia.
Harmony · 31-35
@JSul3 true
jehova · 31-35, M
Hitlers offensive into russia would have destroyed most of nazi forces so it would have been fine.

@jehova This was one IQ killer 🤡
The Nazis and the commies may have just exhausted each other and left a democratic revolution to overrun the continent.
This is why I asked https://similarworlds.com/groups/community/127646-If-you-could-go-back-in-time-do-you so long ago. I wanted to know what people thought of the lesser of 2 evils.
Harmony · 31-35
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I believe they rescued Europe and brought freedom to \Europe.
