From a purely Scientific Materialist POV, is it bad if Humanity goes Extinct?

If no one sentient is around to care?

Or would it be just (as I suspect) really, really funny?

Ummm yes.. it kinda is. If we are to assume that Earth life is important. The life that grew from Earth that is. Then we as a species are the species that has the best chance to keep it going past the point the Earth is habitable.

Well excpet maybe tardigrades and some novel bacteria

@MethDozer Love ya man, but gotta disagree.
@MethDozer we can better protect ourselves against the elements than most species, but we're also the ones changing those. So it's really a toss up.

@NerdyPotato @NerdyPotato The planet isn't going to remain inhabital forever reguardless if we ever existed or did not exist. It also has nothing to do with protecting ourselves from the elements.

Also, Like BlueV explains. Science has no rigjt or wrong, good or bad.

Here's the thing though. Scientifically speaking, there's nothing that makes what we do unnatural since everything we do is due to our nature. So there is that. Then there is this, scientifically speaking no species or amount of species is important. So we go to the other aspectbof the question which is the materialistic stance. From a materialistic stance, we are the species who can keep at least one part Earth based life going past the life of the planet and to other planets. So from a materialistic point the answer is yes.

It's evolution man, that's all that is happening.
