I do. Then is just “then”. Than is “tha-yan”.
Could be a southern thing though.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart maybe the yan part is - but they should still be pronounced differently.
SomeIrishPerson · 31-35, M
Maybe. Now I'm saying both out loud to make sure

@HijabaDabbaDoo
I don't even have a normal Irish accent. It's some bizarre blend of Northern and Southern Irish, and Buckinghamshire 😩

@SomeIrishPerson so you're half posh and half ..not? How do you say your hows
SomeIrishPerson · 31-35, M
@HijabaDabbaDoo
It's awful. Anywhere I go, I get people asking about my accent 😭 People here usually think I sound English. English people think I sound Irish. I've even been asked if I'm Scottish more than once.
But I am a little bit posh yeah 💀

Yes.

Im not sure
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
Yeah, pretty much how they're spelled
BillyMack · 46-50, M
Yep. Don’t ask how. I just said both words to myself for 20 seconds. 😐
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
Then sounds like den and than sounds like thin lol
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
@SwampFlower I had to sit up to make sense of this
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@HijabaDabbaDoo did it help?
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
@SwampFlower It sounds the same. Am I doing it wrong
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
How about the words our and are?
reubles · 41-45, M
@samueltyler2 well, I often see people misusing both words and it made me wonder if there are people out there who genuinely don't hear or know that there's a difference. Sort of like the way that some people write "would of" instead of would've
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@reubles or are they just sloppy and don't care?
wackidywack · 26-30
Yes
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
@wackidywack sometimes I think you sound British and then I hear austrailan and then it's neither
wackidywack · 26-30
@HijabaDabbaDoo my apologies, i feel i did much of language acquistion by myself
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
@wackidywack it's ok, Mr worldwide
Lilymoon · F
Yep
swirlie · 31-35
Yes, because "then" and "than" are two entirely different words, each with different meaning and a specific pronunciation that is unique to each word.
Seems like an odd question. Why would you even ask such a dumb question unless you thought it was okay to pronounce both words exactly the same?
