I read a short story once called colony. I wish I could remember who wrote it, but the plot (such as it was) was that a young new president finds out that American history is a lie and the USA is secretly still part of England. The second best thing about the story was that this was supposed to be the one time the people in charged neglected to mention that as the now POTUS rose through the political ranks, but is completely overshadowed by the climax where (spoiler alert) the president puts the queen of England into a headlock and forced her to sign a new Declaration of Independence! 😂
