I keep seeing ads for the very specific chemo I used to be on

There’s really no need to advertise this because you’ll already know about it if you need it.

Someone sold off my medical records or something.

How predatory and gross.

I swear to god I've just thought of things and they appeared in ads online. I was talking to an old computer geek programmer kinda guy (I clean for him and orher help around the house because he's elderly. He's got a room full of wires and computers and all kind of stuff. He does some kind of work with scientists. I completely forget what at the moment.) recently about this, and he was talking about the things and computer processes it takes to do all of this. He was talking about just saying something, and ads pop up which happens to everyone all the time. It's not even your data being sold, you're being listened to somehow.

@Notsimilarreally our phones and TVs are definitely collecting our voice data. They only admit to collecting what we search for by triggering on listening but I think that’s BS lol

@Notsimilarreally I say it goes even deeper than being listened to somehow...they're in your head/thoughts I think of blue and get ads for generic blue pills.

I know, right? I had something similar happen a couple of years ago, but it wasn't even because of something I had already bought. I was talking to my mom about my dad's dementia, and suddenly I'm getting all these ads on Facebook for dementia tests, pills, etc.

I wasn't even talking on the phone. I was talking in the same room as the phone.
@LordShadowfire Apple or Android?

Did you mention it by name on a phone conversation? Had that happen when speaking of a specific, not that common med on my cell. Next thing I got an ad for it on my time wasting game that was only selling ads for other game downloads prior.

@ineedadrink oh sure, definitely discussed it with doctors and pharmacies on the phone
Well, cheer up. They DON’T know everything.

I keep getting condom and lacy thong ads.

Clearly they don’t know me.

@Mamapolo2016 Or maybe…👀

I like how you get ads for things that you already just bought.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Adrift yep
You really think so?
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@SinlessOnslaught it’s probably the aggregated data from pharmacy purchases and stuff.

With algorithms a keyword is all it takes.

Yes gross - usually just annoying but in this case tone-deaf...
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
These devices are listening to conversations and selling information to advertisers.
