Would you garbage pick?
Sometimes when I'm running on garbage day I'll see some good stuff. It's not like I go digging through bags but if there's decent usable stuff why not? My friends say it's embarrassing and shameful.

1961Dave: When they first started doing big trash clean-up here in my city, my ex's brother got a lawn mower from a wealthy neighborhood on the other side of the city. He said he asked the homeowner's permission (the mower was sitting next to the curb) and he told him it didn't start and it was only a year old, that he would go buy a new cheap lawnmower every year and not have to deal with having one repaired and hauling it back and forth. My brother-in-law said it just needed a spark plug and it was like he had a new mower, he used it for years.
