Would you garbage pick?

Sometimes when I'm running on garbage day I'll see some good stuff. It's not like I go digging through bags but if there's decent usable stuff why not? My friends say it's embarrassing and shameful.

I've been tempted to take mattresses and microwaves and the like that are left out on the pavement. I actually picked up one end of a sofa once, but my friend told me to piss off... :P
