Apparently, president-elect.

He proved he was partially right 馃
@HowIMetYourMother: What do you mean ?
Thanos31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard: majority of population voted for him 馃槄
@HowIMetYourMother: That's not true, though. Hillary had the majority of the popular vote. More individuals voted for her. Trump got the electoral vote.
Thanos31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard: i don't know how that works explain if you don't mind :)
@HowIMetYourMother:
"There are 538 total electors in the Electoral College, who are chosen by each state of the United States and by the District of Columbia (but not by other territories like Puerto Rico). The number of electors for a state is based upon the voting membership of that state in Congress i.e. the number of representatives in the House plus the number of senators. There are a total of 435 Representatives and 100 Senators in Congress; so along with 3 electors from the District of Columbia that brings the total number of electors to 538. A presidential candidate needs 270 (just over 50%) electoral votes to win."

@bijouxbroussard: And votes of people counts for nothing?
@HowIMetYourMother: No, they count. The idea behind the electoral college was so that larger, more populated states (California, Texas) don't have an automatic advantage over smaller, less populated states in choosing, so the representation is closer to being equal. There's always been controversy about it. Trump himself claimed it was "a disaster" and "rigged"---until he won.

@bijouxbroussard: it should be changed i think who wins more votes wins otherwise its not democracy
@HowIMetYourMother: Yes, a lot of people would agree (like I said, Trump was one of them until the EC worked to his advantage). I live in California, where Hillary won 61% of the popular vote (85% in my county alone), and as a result won all 55 of the electoral votes here. Most of the states (except for Maine and Nevada, I believe) have a "winner take all" policy---if you win the majority of the popular votes you win all of the electoral votes.

@bijouxbroussard: that's another reason why trump shouldn't be a president 馃 he won by a system he was didn't agree with
