I didn't show up at my friend's wedding because I knew it was wrong for her to marry that guy. I didn't RSVP, and things were strained between us, but she filed for divorce within two years, and realized that I was right. I sent a gift, and was in town, but at the last minute just could not be a part of that day because she was marrying a con artist in my view.

That must have been difficult.

@Boiswho: Yes, it was. I was dressed, in the car, driving there, and never got off the highway, and ended up going to the beach for a bit to take a long walk. I felt horrible, but I just couldn't stomach being around him.

@toddr13: Yeah, I would have struggled with this kind of thing too.

@Boiswho: The funny thing is her mother called me to see if I was okay, and I said I was so sorry that I could not be there, and she said she wished she had run off to the beach with me. Everyone told my friend not to marry the guy, but I felt so rude for not adhering to my response card, especially with a close friend.

What an awkward wedding that must be.

@Boiswho: Yes, her parents didn't like his parents. His parents put on airs, but didn't have the money that the bride's parents do, so they resented them, which is why her parents didn't like his parents in the first place. His sisters were nasty pieces of work, and from friends who went, it was basically two separate affairs as the bride's guests kept to themselves and the groom's guests kept to themselves as well. Everyone left the second the bride and groom departed on their honeymoon.

@toddr13 There must have been Doom hanging over the entire proceeding.

@laotzu92 Yes, leading up to the wedding, there was a sense of doom. It was awful from what I have heard from those who went, including the bride's father, though he pitied his former son-in-law in a way. That lasted until the SIL cheated on her, and then had the audacity to ask the FIL to be a reference for a new position. Needless to say, he did not get the job.
