Am I becoming an alcoholic?

I have a lot of stress at work and whenever something goes wrong, I drink.
If I don’t I will think about the whole thing have happened during the day so I won’t sleep.
Mom warned me about that but I’m still going on.
I think I am not conducting a healthy lifestyle these days….

being an alcoholic is not something you become--it is usually genetic and then life stress or situations bring out what is already there. I grew up with an abusive alcoholic father and I know I am an addict as well. My son was a drug addict. My son and I realize that and have taken steps to live with it--treatment, meetings and not taking drugs or alcohol. My advice is find people to talk with, a counselor or someone who can listen and help.

@Docdon23 this is good advice if honest, talking is key

@Gangstress Yes, it is not easy. Many fail and stumble. But it is not only possible to succeed, but the resulting life can be just wonderful! I have not had a drink or drug in well over 20 years and my life has never been better. My son is over 16 years and he is very successful, and a great father himself.

@Gangstress Yes. It is very difficulkt to do it alone. There are also free group meetings that really can help, sharing experiences and ways to live sober. AA, NA, etc.

@Docdon23 yeh I am really interested in the group meetings, I think this could put things back into perspective.
My dad was an alcoholic, I can see the trend I am forming and its not good to see

@Gangstress Look up AA. They have meetings all over the place. They are free/ You can go and just listen--or share. They are very accepting. It is one of the most successful ways people learn to live with alcoholism. I went for many years and no longer have any interest in alcohol or drugs. I have learned to find joy in life without it, and in fact life is more joy than I ever had...and no hangovers, no headaches, no forgetting what I did or said, no mistreating others when drunk, no drunk driving, no hurting others or myself, no embarrassing next days, no dependence...
