You're not supposed to chew most medications unless they specifically say they are chewable. You're supposed to swallow them and allow the medication to get into your system that way. Chewing could interfere with effective delivery.

Pills often have coating. It can work not as well or harm your stomach to chew medicine.
Its usually meant to get to a certain point in your system before it dissolves.
It's also nasty.
