What is the origin of the old rhyme. Step on a crack, break your mothers' back. Step on a line break your mother's spine?

Purely out of habit I still observe this saying. The sidewalk I walk my dog on has many cracks. My parents long ago have passed. I still observe this poem as I walk.
Loved my parents enormously. Would never wish them ill. Still I refuse the cracks and lines in the sidewalk and step over.
Just wanted to know the origin if anyone could tell me. Thankyou

I never heard tell of it
The one I heard was
If you got a cold shiver
You would say
Someone has walked on my grave
