Why is it that when someone tells me "there's blame on all sides" it feels like they're trying to pardon the side that's actually at fault?

@Keraunos No, it's more like pointing to other bad behavior to mitigate your own bad behavior. Like, everyone does it so therefore it's not so bad for me to do it.

That is just [i]one[/i] of a fairly long list of possible scenarios that could be seen to fall under the heading of what XamadtheFirst has described.

Hmm. I'll bow out of the discussion then, I guess, that's actually one of the last things that would ever have occurred to me from reading your question. I actually considered myself to be giving the benefit of the doubt by even admitting it as a valid interpretation of what you'd said, so I am clearly coming at the whole thing from a completely different angle of approach.
