The story of Rudolph's red nose

People are often asking how Rudolph got his red nose. Some say he's a lush, others say he does drugs, some even say it's a genetic mutation due to his parents having lived in a nuclear fallout area. Yet it was actually due to downsizing.

Long ago, the reindeer would help assist Santa and his elves in making toys. They would haul wood and metal into the workshops from the vast stockpiles Santa had laid up at the North Pole. As time went by, Santa began using a new material in his toys - plastic. This new material proved to be more versatile than wood and metal, as it was much lighter. Since Santa has to import all of the materials he uses in making toys, plastic proved to be much cheaper as well. That meant he didn't have to stockpile as much raw materials which also meant he didn't need as many reindeer hauling materials into the workshops. So, after the Christmas deliveries are finished and the workshops cleaned up, Santa lays off 45%-60% of his reindeer staff (usually around January 1st) and re-hires them again around December 1st.
Because Rudolph was one of the newer recruits, he always got laid off (low seniority status). Now the laid off reindeer had to find other jobs in order to 'make ends meet' (can't get unemployment insurance for just 1 month of work). Rudolph got a job being a clown at a small circus in northern Canada (and he was quite good). The only problem was the makeup - he was allergic to the adhesive used to make his fake nose stay on. In less than an hour after it was applied, his nose (and his surrounding face) broke out in large hives (not a pretty picture). So Rudolph decided to have a "nose job". He had his nose surgically altered so that it was permanently round and red (just like the other clowns). Although the nose makes Santa snicker (ho, ho, ho), he doesn't object to it and still re-hires Rudolph every December.
