If you are an atheist pothead, would you at least admit that there is something kind of magical about the positioning of this plant and our relationship to it?

I always (but never bothered to look it up) assumed that it was some herbivore defense so the deer get really ripped and have panic attacks and don't eat the weed again. Since we're humans, we're crazy and like to get fucked up on purpose to be able to deal with the terrible, terrible knowledge.
