I Had An Embarrassing Moment
When I first moved in this apartment, I didn't carry my keys with me when I ran out to the mailbox or take out the garbage. On my first weekend here, my one brother came by to help me set up something. I decided while he was busy, I would run out and get rid of the pretty-full trash bags. I left him sitting at the table, adding as I went out, "If the phone rings, don't answer it, I'll only be a minute."
He grunted something and returned to his work.
I went out, dumped the two bags, and came right back. I thought I had just cocked the door, but I tried the door handle and I was locked out. I had a slight panic attack, then got hold of myself and rang the bell.
My brother opened the door. With a sober expression, he said, "I'm sorry. We don't need any more magazines."
I didn't laugh at the time, but I did later. And I learned my lesson. From that day forward, I never left the house without the keys around my neck. Even to the trash bins or the mailbox. What would I have done if I was home alone? I shudder to think.
