I Had An Embarrassing Moment

When I first moved in this apartment, I didn't carry my keys with me when I ran out to the mailbox or take out the garbage. On my first weekend here, my one brother came by to help me set up something. I decided while he was busy, I would run out and get rid of the pretty-full trash bags. I left him sitting at the table, adding as I went out, "If the phone rings, don't answer it, I'll only be a minute."

He grunted something and returned to his work.

I went out, dumped the two bags, and came right back. I thought I had just cocked the door, but I tried the door handle and I was locked out. I had a slight panic attack, then got hold of myself and rang the bell.

My brother opened the door. With a sober expression, he said, "I'm sorry. We don't need any more magazines."

I didn't laugh at the time, but I did later. And I learned my lesson. From that day forward, I never left the house without the keys around my neck. Even to the trash bins or the mailbox. What would I have done if I was home alone? I shudder to think.

I would’ve pushed my life alert button and said I’m locked out and I can’t get in. 😁

My brother was right there - less than three feet away. I don't have a life alert button. I had one, it didn't work, I returned it, and it cost me $20.00 for returning it.

I’m sorry I was joking about the button thing. A play off their commercial

Nothing to be sorry about. And if I DID have a device and used it, how would I get in with the keys in my purse on the wall? If the door had to be knocked in, the landlord would make me pay to fix it. The last time I needed someone to fix the commode, he brought in a plumber - and he paid the man $298.00 - and I had to reimburse HIM.
