Bad PE day [I Remember Physical Education In Vest And Pants]

In year 7 I used to have swimming lessons on Wednesday morning and indoor PE in the afternoon. I hated getting changed and having wet hair for the rest of the day, so one week I decided to leave my swimming costume at home. The teacher was not impressed and told me to swim in my t-shirt and shorts. So I still had wet hair and in the afternoon I had to do gymnastics in my underpants as I had no dry kit to change into 😞

Not a trick you tried to repeat, I bet! How was it swimming in shorts and t-shirt? I’d imagine you had to tie your shorts tight (if they had a drawstring) and I hope your t-shirt wasn’t white! In the afternoon there wasn’t really any other option other than doing the lesson in your underpants. Did you have a vest or bra too?

@QuietSophie I was originally trained in pediatrics, but never really did any private practice, spending my career as a hospital -based physician, and morphed into public health, mostly toxicology. My daughter is a pediatric oncologist.

I can imagine how bad shorts and tee shirt were for swimming in - I can only hope your shorts were well elasticated and also nice and tight fitting!

I think, though you may well not agree, that you were quite lucky in your gymnastics lesson that afternoon. My school would never have allowed a uniform jumper to be worn, so in year 7 you’d have been doing it dressed only in your underpants!

@lcclinton4 Did anyone make a fuss about having to do PE in their pants? I suppose it isn't so bad if all the girls are dressed like that. All our underwear had to be plain white as well. Boring 😩

@QuietSophie I don’t remember anyone making a fuss, certainly not to our teachers. We all did PE in our pants early on in our time at school, occasionally if we had PE when it wasn’t timetabled, or when we forgot our kit. So everyone had experience of it, so we all understood how people felt.’

@Adec757 Nice mum! Mine refused. I never told her about having to do gym in my pants as I was embarrassed and I knew she would have no sympathy 😕
